Sometimes a project isn't a grand, new master bath or kitchen remodel, but one that brings the customer a sense of closure and peace. This was the case of this Cranberry split-level's basement bath and closet. After recently purchasing their home, the owners experienced a hand full of plumbing concerns, one of which being a pin-hole leak in the toilet water line. The leak was a blessing in disguise, because once the affected drywall was removed, an even larger concern was discovered.
In this case, removing the wall uncovered years of water damage and deterioration, and pest access from an unknown hole formed by water coming in from the exterior wall. This was caused by a breach in the exterior wall's building wrap and membrane. The water damage from the exterior was much more prevalent and destructive than the recent pin-hole leak, spreading from the exterior wall of the bathroom, down to the closet in the basement. In turn, more of the drywall and ceiling (than shown) had to be removed to replace existing, aging water pipes, along with the entire paneling that lined the inside of the closet.
Several studs, furring strips, drop ceiling, and insulation had to be removed and replaced, providing the perfect occasion for a closet make-over. At the completion of the project, the bathroom was brought back to it's original state (with all new water lines and materials underneath) and the water- damaged closet had been brought up to date. Again, not a large job, but (none the less) and important one that brought peace of mind to the home owners.
